Boyer Research List

There is an Association of American Boyers that publishes books of various Boyer lines. I think they are on thier 7th volume and each one is rather large. The books can be found at many genealogy libraries and FHC's can get them on film from Salt Lake. Each summer they have an annual reunion in Boyertown, PA.

Peter Boyer was allegedly born in Germany around 1778. When he arrived in America he originally was first known to settle in Somerset County, PA. However, in the early 1800s he and his three sons; Jacob (born 1801), George (born 1804) and John (born 1808) migrated to Armstrong County, PA. He was a pioneer of Plum Creek Township where he was a successful farmer. I have quite a bit of imformation on the family lines of George and John up to 1960, when it was compiled by the Reverend Dale Eugene Boyer of Rural Valley, PA. I am looking to share or obtain information on this branch of my family. Although, the descendants of Peter Boyer are undoubtedly spread throughout the US, until this century the family was concentrated in western PA.

(Note: Thanks to Dave, he's added 466 Boyers to the database. The Peter Line includes over 400 families, Its a large file and I had to trim none Boyers from the file.)

I'm looking for information about my husband's 3rd gr-grandmother. This is all I have (it's not much):

Sarah Boyer b -? d-September 19, 1877 buried in Llewelyn, PA with her husband. She was 60-something when she died, the grave marker was very hard to read. She m Jonas Kauffman and apparently they lived in Schuylkill County, PA ( and possibly Lancaster Co, PA) .

I believe that Sarah's father was Peter Boyer and that he originally lived in Berks Co, PA., and then moved to Stone Valley, Northumberland Co, where he died.

Any info would be great!

Mr. Boyer, (mail to Gary boyer)

I am looking for some information on the Boyer line in Kansas. What I know of my line is this:

Rosa Boyer b. in Garden City Kansas date unknown
   m. to a Clarence Rowe of Kansas
    They had 4 children:
    1. Mildred   b, 28 Feb 1908 in Mineral Springs Kansas
                      d. 29 June 1940 in Jenny Lind, Arkansas
                      m. to Mayo Vincent  (his family immigrated from France and settled
in the Croweburg area.  His family were miners)
    2. Nadine
    3. Maxine
    4. Bud

Does any of this sound familiar? Please email me if you want to trade information. Mildred Rowe Vincent was my paternal grandmother. I only have a little information on the family because she died only 20 days after my father was born.

33.  Robert (Bob) Louis Boyer Jr. bboyer@succeed.net or BBoy1040@aol.com
My search has come to a deadend. The furthest back I have been able to locate my ancestors is 1847. His name was Alex William Boyer, born 1847-1907. He was married to Eliza Jennie Aley b. 1853. She was the daughter of Jacob Aley and Jane Kyle. I believe that Alex had two other brothers. (I think) I do not know if he was born in the U.S. or elsewhere. The majority of my family tree appears to centered around the Evans City, Pa area.

I am helping my wife trace her roots, and have some information from an old family bible on the Boyers but there are a few missing links that I was hoping you or another Boyer reseacher might be able to supply info on.

In the bible it shows a William Boyer born in Pa. about 1797. He was married twice. The first marriage produced 2 daughters and several sons, who served in the Civil War enlisting in various Ohio regiments.

His 2nd. wife, who my wife is supposedly related to was Harriet White, born 10-3-1837. They had 4 children Irene, Ella, Florence L., and Benjamin.

I would like to obtain info on Williams birth date, date he died, first wife's name, childrens names and any birth, marriage, death dates anyone might have.

Thanks in advance
Stan Mazurek

35.  Tom Boyer tboyer@atlcom.net
Several of the postings on your list seem close in location and time to my own research. I am trying to work backwards from William Henry Boyer of Alexandria, VA.(Old Dominion Rifles) who died in battle at Petersburg, Va. on 11 April 1865. He was married to Sara Anne Curtis GORE of Alexandria, b. 5/4/1836 d.1898.

Alexandria's 1860 census shows an 18 yr. old William Boyer listed as a cigar shop keeper living with (sisters?) Mary I. Boyer a 26 yr. old dressmaker and 20 yr. old Mary E. Boyer also a dressmaker. Not positive that this is the same William Boyer, however. Interestingly Mary I. Boyer, the elder of the three is shown as having been born in MD. while the others were born in VA. This line may actually work northward through MD. and or PA. where many families are first recorded.

I have several bits and pieces of pre-1860 Alexandria area Boyer "stuff" but can't make any connections, however some of it may be useful others.

Any help appreciated.
Tom Boyer, Marietta, GA.

For over 40 years I have looked for the birthplace of (Issac Boyer) a great-great-great grandfather in northern England--just recently we found an 1886 letter, a census record, two of his children's birth certificates which say he came from Pennsylvania. The letter as best we can translate says, "he was born up Philadelfey Raven (Ravine) at Black Bond (or Band) creek. Our best guess is he was born around 1780--1790. Anyone know of an Issac, part of a Boyer family, born during this period of time--and maybe someone knows of the geography mentioned--my maps don't show anything--but it is difficult to read the writing.

I am trying to establish the history of the William Henry Boyer who moved from Pa. to Southwest Virginia., probably between 1777 and 1783. He may have moved directly to SW Va, made intermediate stops in Va., or have moved via NC. He was married to Elizabeth [perhaps but uncertain - Christion or Christian] at a date and place unknown. He had a son named John born in Pa. about 1777. He had sons named Jacob and Henry, places and dates of birth unknown. He had a son Daniel, born in Virginia in 1783. He had otther children, probably born after arriving in SW Va. Rumored birth dates vary from 1738 to 1757. Rumored father: Reece or Reese. Rumored mother: Margaret or Mary.

Any information will be appreciated.

In your research have you come across a line of Boyers that fit the following:
Elder relatives recall being told the family was from Holland. Our Boyer line (not in American Boyer's book as of 1963) were to have come from the Boyer's who owned and/or operated the first grist mill in the Orwicksburg area. Am seeking parents of (not usre of birth order - but this is how it has been passed down) Alice, William Richard, Henry G.K. & Mary. The mother is said to have died c. 1876 when youngest child Mary was quite young and is said to be buried in the Schulykill Haven area.

Alice born c.1868 mar Jerry Bass/Bast ? of Schuylkill Haven area died c.1942
William Richard born c.1871 retired from Philadelphia Record/Inquirer was politician
mar. Caroline Aiman from Schuylkill Haven moved to Philadelphia died c.1946 Henry Godfrey Krause (Krouse) always known as H.G.K. born c.1872 mar. Lillian
Mathers (Mathers Coal & Fuel, Phila. & Mathers Mines) buried 15 Sep 1909 Mary born c. 1876 mar a Daniel Sommers and died Phila area c. 1950.
Does anything ring a bell? Any suggestion on researchers in this area? Am willing to pay for reasonable reliable person or to trade for research done in South Jersey area. please e-mail either way.

I'm happy to find a Boyer source. My Boyer connection is with a Magdalena Boyer from Pennsylvania, born probably in the 1760's or very early 1770's. She married a Henry Foster, also from Pennsylvania and their daughter Magdalena was my great-great-great grandmother. We have no other information. The name Magdalena was given to Magdalena foster's daughter and to my great aunt (who hated the name and changed it to Margaret). Any information would be helpful.

Thank you for you response Neil. I would offer the following in order to set the record straight, so to speak:

AMERICAN BOYERS
by the late Rev. Charles C. Boyer
Revised by Melville James Boyer, head of Social Studies Department,
Allentown High School, Allentown, PA
Published under the auspices of the The Association of American Boyers,
Inc., 1940. **Jones Memorial Library, Lynchburg, VA, CS, 71, .B793, 1940 from Interlibrary loan service.

On page 604, Chapter CVIII, you will find the name of Abraham Boyer. Under him please note William Boyer and wife Catherine. From them came William Boyer who married Lucinda Smith. From them came Matilda Jane Boyer who married Charles Holtzman, on October 16, 1879 (marriage license in my possession) page 605. They had two children, Charles Holtzman, Jr., and Mollie Zoe Holtzman. Charles was renamed George Charles (Holtzman) Talbot, and Mollie Zoe (Holtzman) became a Barrowdale. Charles and Matilda Jane (Boyer) Holtzman are my great grand parents. After the death of Matilda Jane Boyer Holtzman, and later the death of Charles Holtzman, the children were placed for adoption in Seneca, Kansas in 1893. I have those records with kinfolk references of A. Boyer, Phebe E. Yocum, Mary E. Llivingood, William Boyer, Lucinda Boyer, William Winfield Boyer, Samuel Boyer, John Boyer, Permelia Jeffries, B. Ellen Friend, Charles Holtzman, Zoe Holtzman, Matilda J. Holtzman, all of which are listed on a Probate Estate Document, Feb 15, 1893. After the deaths of William and Lucinda Boyer, their land in Lincoln County, Kansas had be probated and all the above were heirs.

George Charles (Holtzman) Talbot married Orlie Ethyllynde Burr on July 21, 1908. Orlie was the daughter of Penta A. Burr and Mary Elizabeth Landon. Both families are well renowned. From George and Orlie came Allison Burr Talbot and Leda Nadine Talbot. Allison B. married Bessie Louise Stevens in 1932 and they had Charles Lee Talbot, Donald Gene Talbot (me), Linda Joyce Talbot, and Susan Carol Talbot. Allison just celebrated his 87th birthday on June 1, 97. I have two daugthers, Stephanie Dawn Talbot Fuhrmannek, and Laurel Renee Talbot, who is in Graduate School.

I hope this clears my connection to the Boyer Family.

Best regards, Don Talbot

I have been on the trail for many years and have received more information in the past 4 years than I have in the previous 35 years. I suppose because of computers and e-mail communications.

The Boyer Newsletter, I had hoped, would provide lineages and points of contact to help others find a new person in specific lines. Many reunions have taken place and some never hear a word from or about the results of the gatherings.

I have found many lines of the William Boyer line, through Preston County, WV, onward to Kansas and beyond. However, one family member keeps eluding me. Matilda Jane Boyer (Holtzman) born 1851, age 29, married October 15, 1879 to Charles Holtzman, age 50. I have a copy of their marriage license now. However, besides a lot of information on the children and their adoption, there seems to be nothing available about his and her deaths, where they died, from what, and where they are buried. The Livingood family has provided a lot of information around the family in Kansas, but nothing about Matilida's death.

Has anybody obtained any information about Matilda Jane Boyer Holtzman after she moved to Hedgewood, Horton County, Kansas. We have a letter from her to sister Ella, of April 10, 1887. It is a blank since 1887. It appears she was in Missouri in 1888 for a visit. We believe her first born child Charles was born in 1888, and Zoe in 1891, but can't prove it. She died in 1891, so was there complications? Charles senior died 1893 (?) and Charles junior and Zoe went to adoption. Many letters surround Barbara Ellen and family, but little after 1887 regarding Matilda.

Can anybody help me fill in the gaps with letters, etc.

Are there any lists of Boyers who served during the Revolutionary War specifically from Pennsylvania. I have a document that says my great, great, great, great, great grandfather served from PA but have misplaced it and can't seem to find anything on the net.

Am looking for any information on Jacob Boyer; his son, Benjamin; or his grandsons Peter & John or any other descendants. Jacob was born in Sedan France ca. 1715. Ben was born in Germany ca. 1740 where he married a distant cousin. Some time around 1760 he moved to Pennsylvania where his son Peter was born in 1765 and John in 1771. (There may have been more children, but I haven't found them yet but would like to.) Ben was in Capt. Staddle's Co. during the Revolutionary War. Family tradition says that Ben found other Boyer relatives (from France and Germany) already living in the area of Pennsylvania where he settled. About 1796 Peter and John moved to Frederick County, Maryland, where John married Mary Burkhart. (Mary had one known brother George.) Would appreciate any information on Ben, his wife, his children or the family of Mary Burkhart.

I have just put up my website. My Mom, Audrey Boyer Buell past away last October at age 92. Luckily all of our data to 1966 had been given to the American Boyers. I'm pretty new to this Genealogy thing. I would love to add a link from one of my Boyer pages to yours. You have an interesting site and I'd like to make it available to anyone looking for their Boyer lines.

I'm doing some research into my husband's family tree and do find a "Rebecca Jane Boyer" that married "John L. Mitchell". John was born around 1829 in England and came to the US at the age of 2 years. He died around 1913 @ age 84 in Illinois. They had a daughter named "Anna Louise" (b.17 Feb 1873 in Waverly, Illinois) (d.24 Mar 1963 in Washington, Kansas) who married "Charles Henry Parrack". The only information I have on Rebecca Jane Boyer says that she was buried in "Blocker Cemetery"? If this ties in with anyone's research, I'd be grateful for any information you could share!

54.  Patricia Thome pthome@intelliworks.net
I also am doing Boyer research.. I'm looking for info on Samuel Boyer who came to Sandusky County Ohio from Berks County Pa. He had 17 children according to his obit. I'm looking for them. my great grandfather Otis P or Peter O (I've found his name both ways) was one of them He also had a daughter Julie Jane. I have her downline also. But there are a lot of them missing. Samuel was married first to Julia Ann Andrews and had all the children. Alfred, Oliver, Legrand, John E.(twins) Josiah,Absolom, Marie Allie,Julie Jane, Abraham, Thomas Henry, Mandes L, Alvesta, James H., Peter O., Martin L. are some of them. Do you have any info on any more of them? I have read your pages and didn't find any that I thought matched. Samuel's parents were John F. and Elizabeth Baier Schneider . After her death he married an Elizabeth? I haven't found her maiden name. I found her obit and it says she also had a son from a previous marriage, she's buried in Findley, Ohio. all the rest I have found are buried in Lindsey or Fremont Ohio area.

Would you put a note on it that I'm about to start the final phase of the book, "Descendants of Henry Boyer, of Clarion County, PA"? It's been in the works for 17 years...... Information about Henry, his ancestors, and my lineage from him, is at my personal genealogy link to the Clarion County, PA, genealogy website that I maintain as an affiliate of the USGenWeb project. The URL is
http://www.public.usit.net/mcnamara/clarion/

We feel confident that we've identified Henry's children by his two wives. We're having a little trouble with a few of the children's progeny, however. There were at least two distinct, contemporaneous Boyer families in Clarion County when Henry Boyer lived there (circa 1830-1877). Henry and his descendants lived in Perry and Licking Townships, primarily. The other families I've identified in Clarion County lived primarily in townships north of the Clarion River. Of course, they all trace back to Johann Philip in Amity Twp., Berks Co.

I went to Frankenthal, the city where Johann Philip was christened in 1715, in August. The trip was a real bust, since the Lutheran Church is gone. I realized the area had suffered extensive damage during the Allied bombing raids on Mannheim during World War II.

I don't have much info on my family. I was born in 1970 to Harry and Arlene Boyer. My dad, Harry James Boyer, was born in 1946 to Buellah (Lovejoy) Boyer and Harry Boyer Jr. I know my dad was born in the Kansas City area and his dad was born in Ks. Or Mo. My grandpa is an only child I believe and his dad's name was Harry Sheridan Boyer. HSB died in 1974 - 75. The family lived in Mo. And it is believed that they were friends / acquaintances of Jessie James. I know that my great grandpa lived near Jessie James' home. I don't know if my great grandpa was an only child or not. I do not know what my great grandma's name was. She died when my grandpa was a teenager and my great grandpa married her sister (Aline - don't know maiden name). My dad has four half brothers - all from the Kansas City area, but has migrated to Victoria, Texas- Mark, Paul, David and Joel Boyer. I know I am not using all the proper jargon - sorry I am new at this.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

69.  JAMES C. SHELLHAMMER jshellhammer@juno.com
I am Jim Shellhammer, I live in Colorado Springs and have been tracking my family line back to 1753. There was a Boyer in my family by the name of Elizabeth Boyer (b. Oct 12 1787 PA d. Mar 31 1869 MI). She married my g-g-grandfather DANIEL SHELLHAMMER in the area of Schuylkill Co. PA as near as we can determine in the 1809 time frame.
There is a paper from the Boyer family in that area as to the fact that a Boyer married a Shellhammer but no further details, or to what Boyer line.
My question to you is: are the Boyers of Armstrong County related to the Boyers of Schuylkill, Columbia, Luzerne, or counties of that area in PA.
Daniel and Elizabeth are buried in the Plum Creek Cemetery in Cass Co. Michigan. There is one minor error in the headstone but I have most of the other data (children, time arrived in area etc.) Do you have any information on the eastern PA lines if they are related to those in Armstrong CO.?
You did a wonderful job with the ones on the net. I am new (three days old) to the net but am getting my feet wet fast. I do not know which Shellhammer married Mary Hawkins (#21) but will try to determine that if you want it.

70.  Asasoccer@aol.com

72.  Eileen L. Whatley lavina@revwhatley.com
My name is Eileen Lavina Poindexter Whatley. I am seeking any information that I can find on the BOYERS as I don't know where I fit into this great family. I would love to have any information that you would be willing to share with me, such as where they came from, what the name means, if there is a family crest and if so, what it is and where I can find a copy of it. You can find what little information that I have at: http://www.revwhatley.com/boyer.html. My mother's name is Janie Lavina Boyer Poindexter Heflin. She was born July 2nd, 1928 in Aubrey, Arkansas. Her Dad, my Granddad's name was Henry Goldman Boyer. He was born December 14, 1898, in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. He died May 22, 1968 in Marianna, Arkansas. He married Ruby Kathleen Perry. She was born April 14, 1906. She died August 14, 1995 in Arkansas. They had eight children. Six girls & two boys. Mother's Granddad, my Great-granddad, was John Clinton Boyer. He was born July 19, 1839. He died June 1, 1913. He married Polly Lavina Miller, which is where I got my middle name . No one knows where John Clinton came from. All we know is that he was a hard worker, & he took care of his family. This is as far back as I have been able to go in my research. If anyone has any information on this line of Boyers, I would appreciate it very much if you could share it.

73.  Michael Boyer O'Leary mboleary@MIT.EDU
I am 7th great grandson of an Andreas Beyer (b. 1681, Ebstein, Palatinate, Germany) who m. Catharina and had six sons. According to "American Boyers" (1940 edition), Andreas arrived 9-5-1738 with these sons in Phila, PA on ship "Winter Galley." I am descended through Andreas' son John Jacob and would appreciate hearing from anyone else working on this line.

74.  Belinda Boyer RX SPRTSWR@aol.com
My name is Belinda Boyer and I have just begun to seach for family on my fathers line. My father died when I was 8 and my grandmother when I was 12. After that point contact with any relatives ceased.
I never met my grandfather. He died 7 years before my birth. This is what I know and so hope that any of what I know matches something similar to your family history.
My great grandfather's name was John Boyer and he was from Ohio. He married Minerva McClure. I do not know how many children they had. I only know of Vincent Boyer, my grandfather born:7-8-1874 death: 1961. Vincent married a woman named Dollie and had two children: Max (could be nickname) and Geraldine Snyder(married name) and possibly another son named after Vincent(according to information from a library in Van Buren Indiana a Vincent Boyer Jr. died at 10 months old). Dollie died in 1922. My grandfather later married my grandmother Daisy Beulah Jordan. They had one child, my father Richard Allen Boyer. I do know that my father's half brother Max had atleast one daughter her name is Debbie. She would be my cousin.
I know that my grandfather moved from Ohio to Indiana in 1899 at the age of 25. I do know that my grandfather had at least two siblings alive at the time of his death in 1961 according to his obituary. Their names are Nathaniel Boyer, Defiance, Ohio and May Danison(married name) Toledo, Ohio. Nathaniel died in 1965 two years after his wife Martha Henefield. I do not know any other information for his sister May(that too could be a nickname).
According to my grandfather's obituary in 1961 he had 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. I was born in 1968 so with that info I know there has to be relatives of mine out there. I am an only child and have had any connection with anyone from the line that I can remember.
side bar: At the funerals of my father and grandmother I do remember becoming close with a family descended from Geraldine Snyder (Great Aunt). There names are Edwin and Dixie Snyder and they had two children Linda and Mike. They lived somewhere in Indiana in 1976 and 1980 when my father then grandmother died.
I realize this is a large amount of information but again I am hoping something is recognizable to you. I look very forward to hearing from you.

75.  June Boyer NavyMomE5@aol.com
I published a book in 1985 with the help of my sister. I did the research and she did the typing. I started it only to find my Grandfather James Wesley Boyer's long lost brother John Boyer b. 1883 in Arkansas. John ran away from home when he was 14 and they never saw him again. My grandfather searched for him until the day he died at 84. I could only locate him to about age 29 and do not know if he married or had children. He was found in Shawnee, Oklahoma on the 1910 census but no record after that. Their father was William H. Boyer b. Feb. 3rd. 1849 Crawford County, Arkansas, his father John Boyer b. 18l2 in Tennessee. John was massacred along with the rest of his family except his son William, who had ran away from home earlier, at MOUNTAIN MEADOWS MASSACRE, in Utah by the Mormons along with the Fancher wagon train headed for the gold fields of California in September of 1857.

Henry Boyer m. Mary Gambell and was b. 1777 om Virginia d. Johnson County, Arkansas, Aug. 17, 1861. Henry was the son of Henry Boyer and Catherine. This Henry was b. 1753 in Pennsylvania and died in Stokes County County, North Carolina December 1796. If you know anyone that knows anything about my lost John Boyer b. 1883 Arkansas I would appreciate it.

I have been trying to trace my Solomon BOYER who perished in the Johnstown Flood of 1889. I have attended a Boyer Reunion in Boyertown, PA 4-5 years back and submitted all of my family info in hopes that it would be published in the American Boyer's book 7th edition. I am still looking for information on this Solomon Boyer. I believe Solomon's parents were Henry Boyer and Catherine (Bortz) Boyer. I know that my Solomon was born in Stoney Creek, Somerset Co., PA about 1827. If you could help me link to someone that may have any inforamtion it would greatly be appreciated.

78.  Kay Ater Goeggle kgoeggle@laribay.net
I am looking for information concerning a Mary or Marie Boyer that married George Ater, Eader in Loudoun County VA 14 June 1774. That was in the Harper's Ferry area of Va that is now Jefferson County if I am correct. This could be Berkley County WV also. This is an area that has been changed often.
She had several children and died before the family migrated to Ohio in 1799.
I would like to contact any researcher that has information about the family in that time period. We have a marriage date but I have not been able to confirm it and we also do not know where she is buried or exactly when she died.
I will gladly share info on the children of this marriage and the huge family that goes all over the US from Ohio. I am descended from the son Thomas that was born in 1791. The children were for a most part baptised in the Evangeline Lutheran Church Frederick MD.
David Boyer was witness at the marriage. Also David Boyer and Susannah Christman(wife) was witness at a child's baptismal. A lot of families by the name of Boyer has ended up in the same area that the Ater families has, Ross County Ohio and Piatt County IL. We just have not been able to connect from that end.
Hopefully this rings a bell with some one and they will be kind enough to share.

I am descended from Anna Maria Reed b. 1804 m. Jacob Stahlman in Schuylkill co. Pa. I published volume one of the Stahlman family from data that my aunt and I collected on the Stahlman family and related branches.

Phillip Reed had two wives. #1. Catherine Boyer died 1800-1802 had one child. Father of Catherine Boyer was William Boyer. Wife #2 was Margaretha Catherine Boyer born June 1781 died July 1848. Parents were John and Margaretha Boyer. This is my parents of Anna Maria Reed Stahlman.

This information was sent to me by competent researchers of the Hegins, Schuylkill co. area several years ago on a family group sheet, but they did not send sources. Does anyone have the proof of the parentage of the 2 Boyer women who married Philip Reed? The names are William Boyer -wife not known and John and Margaretha Boyer who were probably from Schuylkill co. or earlier from Berks co. Pa.

My great, great grandfather (Thomas Slater) was married to Mary "Polly" Boyer. They lived in Forsyth County, North Carolina. I believe that Mary Boyer was born about 1830/1840 and died 1875/1885. Mary Boyer Slater is shown as the head of her household in the 1870 census. I can find no record of Mary Boyer's parents. I know that she was married twice, the first time to William Ketner, again of Forsyth County, NC. I have reason to believe that she may have had a sister, Paulina Boyer Brewer, and an aunt, Elizabeth Boyer Beroth. I have seen her name mentioned with that of John Boyer, but really have no idea about her antecedents. I am corresponding with someone in Winston-Salem, NC who is likely related to Paulina Boyer Brewer, and would appreciate any information you might have. Barring that could you post this message to the "board" for me.

Last place known to bre living was in Texas. He has 2 daughters. Amy and Susan. His wifes name is Irene. Their fathers name was John Hamilton Brown. Born in West Virigina in 1868? and died in Ross County Ohio in 1965? He was married twice. He had children with his first wife but their names and whereabouts are unknown. I am looking for information on my ancestor, John Boyers, who was born c. 1783 in Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Darr/Tar in Jefferson Co, Kentucky in 1806. His son John was born 1813 in Jefferson Co, Ky and later moved to Harrison Co, Indiana where he married Lydia Hurst in 1834. John and Lydia later moved to Clark Co, Illinois where my great-grandfather James M.Boyer was born 21 May 1853. James married Erminda Mills there 12 Sept. 1878.

112.                      Sandy Troutman SandysHome@aol.com
Date: 98-07-11 03:45:19 EDT

I'm looking for info on Boyer's who married Troutman's.

Peter Boyer, born 1780, died 1847 married Susanna Troutman, born 1778 in Greenwich Twp., Berks Co., PA, died Feb. 5, 1830. They were married in 1798 in Somerset County and are apparently buried in the Boyer Cemetery, Southampton Twp. Somerset Co., PA.
They had several children:
Elizabeth Boyer, born 1835, Somerset County, married Lorenzo Young Morris
Catherine Boyer, born 1838, Somerset County, married James Geer
Gideon Boyer, born 1840, Somerset County, married Rose Stoll
Mary Elizabeth Boyer, born 1841, Somerset County, married Oliver Everett Fellows
Joseph Boyer, born 1844, Somerset County, married Elizabeth Ann Troutman
Henry Boyer, born 1845, Somerset County, married Emmaline Melice Johnson
Rudolph Boyer, born 1846, Somerset County, married Phoebe Elizabeth Plummer
Daniel Boyer, born 1848, Somerset County, married Mary Elizabeth Miller
Rachel Boyer, born 1850, Somerset County, married Henry Missman
Samuel Boyer, born 1852, Somerset County, married Rebecca ?

Joseph Boyer and Elizabeth Ann Troutman are the main line I'm looking for. According to Family Tree Maker, Elizabeth was my husband's great grandaunt and Joseph was his 3rd cousin, 3 times removed. Susanna Troutman, Joseph's mother would have been my husband's 1st cousin, 5 times removed. Joseph was listed as a farmer in the 1870 census in Nelson Twp., Dixon, Lee County, Illinois. In 1885 Nebraska census, he was listed as a druggist in York County, NE.

There is also an Abraham Boyer, born 1809, PA, married Margaret Troutman. Margaret's parents were William Troutman and Catherine Uhl. William and Catherine were my husband's 4th great grandparents.

In all of your postings, I've never seen the Troutman name. If this is part of the line of the American Boyer's, I'd be really interested in how to obtain your book. Please let me know if anyone has any info on this line.

Thank you for the great pages. I am doing both sides of my parents family trees. My father's side has been done from 1770 on so I am going back further and updating the new additions.

My mother's side is almost hopeless, but I am finding that if I really want to search, hopefully sooner or later, some new light can be shed.

My mother's father's mother was born Edith Anne (Annie) Bowyer(Boyer). Place of birth is unknown at the present time. Her father Job Boyer (Bowyer) died in Vancouver, British Columbia around 1905 or 1906. He was 61 years of age so time of birth is estimated to be 1844, 1845. Before moving to Vancouver, he was in Mission, British Columbia. He arrived in Agassiz, British Columbia in 1895 and left for Mission around 1898. Before living in Agassiz, according to the Agassiz-Harrison Valley Booklet a J. Boyer was to have come to Agassiz from Sidney, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. At the time of his death in 1906, he was survived by his wife (Jane, presumbly) two sons, Joshua and Job (who later went by Joe), four daughters (three of which I have identified), being Edith Anne, Jessica, and Jenny; which could be a nickname. In the family album there is an Aunt Nell which says above the picture Nana's sister, a picture of an Aunt Gertrude, so I am not really sure of the other sister's name.

Pictures in the family album have been taken by photographers in the UK- London and Folkstone, Puyallup Washington, Victoria BC, New Westminster BC.

I know that for awhile the family were strong Methodists. My great grandmother Edith belonged to the Rebekkah's and for some reason my mother thinks her grandparents were missionairies, but that is not confirmed. Edith's father in Agassiz and Mission had a lumber mill.

I don't know if you have any information that could help but I sure appreciate that you took the time to read this. I am really new a putting a family tree together, in fact I haven't even really started. I have been collecting family albums and info for the past five years. Seems everyone wants to get rid of it. Many important pieces of documentation have been lost or thrown out by previous family members. And of course most photos are not identified or have been identified incorrectly.

I am still reading books on genealogy and how to keep records and documentation etc. I do not know or understand the lingo that is used by genealogists yet, so this is why this is done like this.

My grandmother was Alpha Belle Boyer, she married Harold Forman Mosser. She is a direct decedent of Frederick Beyer who came to USA from Germany in the 1700's. I have only her direct line and wondered if anyone has communicated with you about that line. (Believe me I know there are massive amounts of Boyers out there.) I have all the info on Jacob Boyer, son of Jacob Boyer and Nancy Swartz including his military records from Civil War and the family he left.

I also need help in finding out what happened to my Grandmother's two older brothers after 1870 - they are in that year census. Have not looked in 1880 yet.

They were: Isaac M. Boyer b.1854 and James Frederick Madison Boyer born Feb.7, 1857. In 1870 Isaac was living with his grandfather Isaac Bailey and James was living and working on farm of John Hannah both in Fairfield Twsp.Westmoreland Co.Pa.

Date: 10/20/98 5:05:37 PM EST

Just received 2l pages of information from National Archives re:pension for Sarah Bailey Boyer, widow of Jacob Boyer and her 4 children. Jacob Boyer was a private in Co."E" 11th Pa. Vol. He enlisted Sept.6, 186l, was wounded Dec.l3,l862, re=enlisted Jan.l l864, was captured at Petersburg,Va. on Aug.l9, l862, sent to Salisbury, N.C. prison where he died Jan.3l, l865.

Jacob Boyer, son of Jacob Boyer and Nancy Swartz of Cumberland Co.,Pa. and who moved to Armagh, Indiana Co. in l848, married Sarah Bailey, daughter of Mary and Isaac Bailey of West Fairfield Twsp., Westmoreland Co. Pa. They were married in Mill Creek Furnace Methodist Church by Rev. James L. Deens.

Children were" Isaac M. Born Oct.28,l854 in Armagh, James Frederick Madison Boyer, born Feb.7, l857 in Armagh, both births witnessed by Eliza Ulster, Frances Gray and their grandmother, Nancy Boyer. Mary Elizabeth born July l4, l859 and Rachel Agnes born Oct. 24, l863 were attended by Dr. James Taylor in West Fairfield, Pa. Nov. l6, l868 Isaac M. Bailey was appointed guardian of his 4 grandchildren. Sarah Boyer married Patrick Cole of Fairfield,Pa. on July 30,l868 in Johnstown by William Flattery, Esq., J.P. According to l870 census Isaac (age l5) was living with his grandfather, James was living and working on the farm of John Hannah. Agnes was living with her mother who also had a l year old son, John Cole./ I suspect Mary Elizabeth may have gone to Johnstown to live with her uncle Leonard Boyer as from notes I have she was close to him and I was told she was a teacher in Johnstown before she married John McBroom in l876.

I am looking for information on my grandmother's two older brothers. Isaac M. Boyer born in Armagh, Indiana Co.Pa. in 1854. On 1870 Census for Fairfield Twsp. Westmoreland Co.Pa. he was living with his maternal grandparents Mary and Isaac M. Bailey - Isaac had been named his guardian in Nov.1868.

James Frederick Madison Boyer born in Armagh, Pa. Feb.7,1857 was living and working on the farm of John Hannah in 1870.

Their father was Jacob Boyer born in Cumberland Co.Pa. 1829, enlisted during the Civil War, served in the 11th Pa. Volunteers, captured Aug.l9,1864 at Weldon RR. near Petersburg,Va. and confined to Salisbury,N.C.Confederate prison where he died Jan.3l,1865. Their mother was Sarah Bailey Boyer and she remarried July,1868 to a Patrick Cole of Fairfield Twsp.Pa. They had a son John born 1869. Sarah's daughter Rachel Agnes born Oct.24,1863 was living with them in 1870. I do not know where my grandmother, Mary Elizabeth, born July l4,1859 was living in 1870. She may have been living with her Uncle Leonard Boyer in Johnstown Pa. I was told she taught school in Johnstown before her marriage to John McBroom Dec.26,1876.

Would appreciate any information. I do have all the genealogy on Jacob Boyer and on my McBroom family who were originally from Indiana Co. until 1864 when they moved to Fairfield Twsp. Westmoreland Co.Pa.

I have only just recently begun to dig into my Boyer genealogy. Now that I have started, I am a bit confused. I was wondering if you could help me. This is what I have so far.

My granmother is Mary Alice BLAIR. Her father was William Marshall Blair (d.1946) and her mother, SELINA BLANCHE BOYER (3/1902-7/1983).

Selina was one of 13 children. Her parents were SAMUEL EDGAR BOYER (5/1874-11/1959) and EMMA RETTA STUMP(12/1881-6/1944) of Duncannon, PA.

Samuel's father was SAMUEL S. BOYER (10/1838-8/1918).

Samuel S.'s father was also a Samuel of Cumberland County, PA.

I was wondering if you had any information that could help me out. Anything you have would be appreciated.

You have John Boyer, 1791, m. Hannah Ringler on 12/1/1822 listed as a son of Wm. Boyer, 1757. My info has the same John listed as a son of George Boyer, 1760, who was a son of John Boyer/Beyer, 1734.

Was wondering where you got the info on John, 1791, and Hannah, as this would change my family line. However, I am almost positive that I have the correct info.

I looked on your site and didn't find the Boyer's I was looking for.I am researching Boyer's from Dubuque and Des Moines Iowa. My grandmother was Mabel C. Boyer from Dubuque. She married Wallace P. Ellis and they lived in Des Moines in 1915 - 1945. Mabel was married to a Charlie Dallas before Wallace. Mabel and Wallace had 3 children; Clyde, William and Lillian. Mabel had a brother William and a sister Rose. William had 3 childred; Elizabeth (Betty, she became Betty Fortino), Charlotte and Francis. I had been told that my grandparents had been in an orphanage while growing up. It could have been the Soldiers Orphan Home in Davenport Iowa in the early 1900's. Any information on this family line would be appreciated.

I came across your "Boyer Research List" web site on the Internet recently, and was intrigued. I'm sure that you do not have the lineage from which I am associated. Somewhere, I or my parents have an extensive list of our line, extending back to the mid 1770's. My father has traced, in some degree, our family to a Komrad (or Conrad) Boyer, from Germany, settling initially in Virginia, then moving to Henry County, Kentucky to perform surveys after the Revolutionary War. My family has lived in that area since that time.

Contact me at some time in the future, by , and I will endeavor to have more information for you and the rest of the Boyer's.

Georgia. It is said that his father was from Holland and that Elias married Ann BRUCE in Pennsylvania. NO Proof. Elias and Ann's children were William, John, James, George, and Ann. One lady documented Elias and Ann as being married in Virginia, but once I tried to verify this, the Elias she had documented was married to Ann BRAUN. I have just received information that Elias was married in Pennsylvania and father from Holland. Any help you could give me would be very appreciated.

Many thanks for any information. There are so many Boyers!

I have Anna BOYER married on Sept. 21,1822 In New Hanover Lutheran Church, Montgomery Co., PA to Jacob Handworck Gresh. Anna and Jacob had the following kids--
George Boyer Gresh (b.6/2/1824)
Jacob Boyer Gresh (7/29/1828--3/20/1827)
Bennneville Boyer Gresh (b. 4/17/1828)
Rebecca Boyer Gresh (b. 1/18/1831)

I'm looking for Anna's family AND any decendents of this BOYER-Gresh marriage.

Date: 3/2/99 5:36:33 AM EST

I just got a bit of new information--maybe someone can match it. I have an Israel Boyer (B. July 15, 1817 in Amity Twp., Berks co., PA) marrying Elizabeth Gresh Moser (no dates on her). He also married Elizabeth's sister Margaret Gresh Moser (12/25/1816, Amity twp., Berks Co.--7/14/1843, St. Paul's, Amity Twp., Berks Co.), but I don't know which sister he married first.

Question: Can anyone find Israel Boyer on his/her research, and if so, is he somehow elated to the Anna Boyer who married Jacob Handworck Gresh?

Date: 5/28/99 6:36:09 AM EST

I have Anna Boyer married to Jacob Hadworck/Handwerk Gresh on September 21, 1822. I have NO information about Anna at all, and I need it--info on Anna and her kids, particularly her son Benneville Boyer Gresh (born April 17, 1828). If I'm right, Anna would be my g-grandmother eight generations back, through Benneville.

Also, as a matter of curiosity, in the same Gresh genealogy, I have an Isaac Boyer (b. July 15, 1817, in Amity Twp., Berks Co., PA) who married first one sister, Elizabeth Gresh Moser and then another sister Margaret Gresh Moser (b. 12/25/1816, in Amity Twp.) The marriage between Isaac and Margaret produced one son, Isaac Moser Boyer.

Are Anna Boyer (whom I really NEED info about) and Isaac Boyer related? If so, how?

If you can help, I'd really appreciate it--and if I'm right, I can offer a ton of collateral line Boyer stuff if you'd like to have it.

I am looking for information on my mother's family. My mother was Margaret Frances Boyer, born September 14, 1917 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died September 10, 1983. Her parents were Wilbur Edgar Boyer and Linnie Margaret Woolf Boyer. Wilbur, my grandfather, was born in Ambia, Indiana, around 1870-80's. He and my grandmother both died in the winter of 1926 in Oklahoma City. I don't know any more about my grandfather's family. I know that some Boyers from Indiana settled in Oklahoma. I have a letter from my mother's Aunt Rosa Boyer that my grandfather had a brother Ralph, who was an attorney, and a sister Anna, and probably more siblings than that.

I would so like to know more about this Boyer family. Thanks!

I have a few pages from a Boyer book 554-569 starting with Leonard Beyer b 2 Feb, 1714 in GEmany and died 14 July, 1798. He arrived at Philadelphia, October, 1741 on the ship "Molly," sailing from Rotterdam. He settled in Plainfield Twp. Northampton Co, where he is found in 1761 on the earliest existing tax list of that county. He maried Elizabeth and had at least these children: Leonhart, Abraham and William. He was a Rev. soldier enlisting in Northampton co. When he died in 1777 Orphans court records at Easton, Pa said he left a widow Elizabeth and two minor children. I would be happy to share any of this information from this book on the American Boyers. My particular interest is Leonhart who was born 1769 in Plainfield twp Northampton co, Pa and died 26 March, 1820. He married Mary Deemer of Westmoreland co pa and they had these children: Jacob, Elizabeth, Mary, Peter, Andrew, Ann and JOhn.

I am researching my step-father's family for my Mother. His name is Earl E. Boyer, Sr. of Johns Is., SC. There is almost no information on his parents/grandparents (he always inferred that he may have been raised by his grandparents). I have a copy of the 1920 census which placed Edward J. Bowyer and Catherine M. Bowyer in Richland County (Columbia), SC with Earl E. Bowyer, who at the time was 1-1/2 yrs. old. At some point the family changed their last name to Boyer. Earl's birthday is Nov. 23, 1918. I doubt that they are from the same line as the Boyers in your site, but perhaps someone has some information on them. Any help is appreciated.

I have researched the boyer family back to Europe and parts of Hungary. The family moved into Canada and then to the USA. My Mother had a great uncle (Michigan) who's son was a very popular person back in the early 20's. He was very close to the Ford Family (Henry & Edsel). He won the Indy 500 in 1924. His name was Joe Boyer. I have all of the details of this event. Since I have spent so much time on my fathers side of the family I haven't had much time to research the Boyer family. When he was about 20, in 1842, JOSEPH BOYER moved to Elkhart Indiana where he lived 11 years . he was married on april 1 1849 to Susannah Whetstone

Susannah moved with her father's family from Pennsylvania to Elkhart County, Indiana where she was united in marriage to Joseph Boyer on april 1 1849 Joseph was 26. In 1853, When Susannah was 19, Joseph and Susannah moved from Indiana to near Norwalk, in Warren County Iowa. Where they lived 29 years until Joseph was 62. In the year 1882 they moved to Panora Iowa on a farm on which he died November 4 1904. Susannah Whetstone Boyer lived to Feb 4 1918.

DAVID and BARBERA SMITH BOYER lived in Pennsylvania. Gerald Boyer's Great Great Grandfather [NO STATISTICS KNOWN] Moved to Richland county Ohio. when Joseph Boyer was 3 years old. Willie Boyer worked at Charlie Hunter's farm at Scranton, Iowa , which was located 1 1/2 miles north of Ale & Carries farm.

Daisy and Willie Boyer were married in Scramton, Iowa in the Methodist parsonage on12-22-1918.

Daisy and Willie farmed Simon and Lena Boyer's farm near Panora, Iowa (located 5 miles east 2 miles north) for 1 year in 1919.

Next they rented a farm (located 1 mile east of Gutherie Center, Iowa on the north side of the road) from March 1st. to the next year. They lived there on the Roosenberger farm for one year. A creek ran through the farm which had lots of fish and the ground was very wet. They had a family bull dog named Judy which use to help get the cows.

Ernie Boyer was born 1-8-21 at the Shield's farm located 5 1/2 miles south and 2 miles west , near Scranton, Iowa.

On 3-1-21 Willie Boyer rented the Napper farm located 1/2 mile north of the Shield's farm. They lived on this farm for 3 years. There was a big pond there. Their horse which was pulling the wagon, laid down in the road when Daisy started to town.

Gerald Boyer was born on the Napper farm on 2-24-24.

On 3-1-24 the McCoul farm (located south of Baird, Iowa ) was rented for one year. A tornado went through and did a lot of damage. Luckily the family was safe in the cave that was located on the farm.

Lloyd Boyer was born on 4-28-25 on the McCoul farm. The McCoul farm house burned down about the end of the year.

On 3-1-26 the Boyer's moved to the Wilkinson farm near Gowerie, Iowa and had a sale in the fall of the same year. The family owned a Ford truck with a lift that could haul gravel.

In 1927 the moved to Winterset, Iowa. There they purchased a garage and sold Raulegle products. Later Willie worked at a rock quarry as a foreman and mechanic for the Crame construction company.

Donald Boyer was born on 5-15-29 at Winterset, Iowa.

In 1930 Willie moved his family to Earlham, Iowa, where the Crame construction company had won the contract to rock the streets.

In the last part of 1930, after the Earlham job was complete, they moved to Des Moines, Iowa.

On or about 3-1-31 the family again moved because they had rented the Spies' farm near Wallingford, Iowa. ( 1 mile west and 1 1/2 miles south) Here they plowed with a gang plow pulled by horses and disc ahead of the planter, and cultivated corn. They had to be up at 4:00 A.M. to milk the cows. They had a lot of hogs and they had big stacks of hay to feed the cattle. Unfortunately, that year the cattle and hog market fell to almost nothing leaving them in dire striates.

On 8-9-32 Clifford Boyer was born on the Spies' farm. Later the family had to have a sale to pay for the $800.00 cash rent.

Once again, on or about 3-1-33 the family had to move. This time they moved to the Fred Cook farm. Here they raised a garden in order to eat and can something to last them through the hard Iowa winter. The workman wages of that time was only $.50 per day, and that was not good enough to pay the bills and feed the family also. It was a good thing that they had a milk cow for milk and butter, and some chickens for eggs.

Around 3-1-39 they moved to the Wagoner farm about 5 miles southwest of Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Around 3-1-43 they moved to the Milford farm that was 7 miles northwest of Milford, Iowa Lloyd got romantic fever by drinking milk from a sick cow.

Gerald married Ruby Soper on 10-31-46, and moved to the Wood's farm. They were blessed with Rosemary in July of ,47 and Shirley in June of ,49.

They moved to the Brenton farm in ,49 where Bob was born in July ,51, Barbara in Oct ,54 and Susan in June ,56. In ,59 they lived on the west farm and farmed both of the Brenton farms. Wile they lived there they were blessed with Geraldine 10-10-62 and there baby girl Diane 7-31-65.

Willie and Daisy moved to Flagstaff Arizona in the fall of ,66. In ,68 they bought a house in Yumea Arizona.

In ,67 Gerald bought a farm located 7 miles west and 1 1/2 miles north of Emmetsburg Iowa where he moved and farmed until ,89, when he retired and had a farm sale. Still living at the farm he now rents the farm out. Willie left this world for his finale rest in January of ,71. Daisy followed him in ,90.

I am looking for information on David Boyers family need help tracing back.

Alexander Seldon Boyer I am searching for the birthplace, and the parents of my great-great grandfather Alexander Seldon Boyer who died in Chippewa County Wisconsin in April 1866. He served as a pvt with Company I of the 30th Wisconsin Infantry in the Dakota Territory during the Civil War, and was stationed at Fort Union. Family oral history has it that he came to Chippewa Falls in Chippewa County Wisconsin possibly in the late 1840`s or early 1850`s where he met and married Levina Ann Walton. They were married in Chippew County on 18 October 1852.

The story is that Alexander was born in Pennsylvania, but moved to Tennessee when he was a small boy. The family farmed in Tennessee where they grew tabacco and cotton. At the age of twenty-two Alexander left Tennessee, and walked to Wisconsin where he eventually settled, first working in the lumber industry, and then settling down as a farmer. Any help in establishing the parentage of this Boyer line is appreciated.

Do you have any information for a John Boyer who married Annetje Van Keuren in Butler County, OH 27 Oct l8l2?

Annetje b: l7 Oct l794 in Kingston, New York daughter of Cornelius E. Van Curen b: 3 June l766 in Kingston, New York - d: August l846 in Hocking Co., OH

I believe this John Boyer d. ca l822 in the Flat Rock River area of IN and that there were five children - the oldest Margaret and the youngest Capt. Gilbert W. Boyer. All children probably born in OH The mother and children moved back to OH after the death of John Boyer. Gilbert was born after the death according to family hearsay.

Margaret's obituary states that she was born in the southeast corner of Butler Co.

The l820 Colerain Twp., Hamilton Co., OH (just south of Butler Co.) census lists as heads of households Sweden Boyer and John Boyer. No record of them after that. Do you have any information - especially on Sweden?

Need more to connect all of the above.

Glad to hear from someone in my lost domain of doing BOYER research. There are so many unrelated links to different boyer families. I am in need of a william boyer married to a lucinda bellemare in 1896. They resided near blind river, cutler ontario. Possibly from Pennetanguishine or Bying Inlet Ontario. Does any of this sound familiar to you?

Hi, I recently discovered the link from Lemuel Byers (1809-1889) back to his father John Byers/Boyer/Boyers (1762 - 1861) to Frederick Boyer (1730-?) Do you have any information on that part of the Boyer/Byers tree OR going back from Frederick Boyer?
Thanks.
Dave Byers 12-10-97 Since posting that, I have learned that Frederick was actually Benjamin Boyers. The family line is listed in Chapter 31 of Vol. III of the American Boyers book.
Could you please post this change. I am still looking for ancestors back from Benjamin as well as anyone on the net with info on descendants.
